Plastic Soldier Company 20mm Late War Germans and Summer Soviets

My intent was to do a mini review of these minis from Plastic Soldier Company. There are some in depth reviews on Plastic Soldier Review. I was going to link to them but at this writing the site was down for some reason. Regardless, it appears these particular minis are not currently available, and and may be in the midst of retooling. So anything I say here may not be applicable to the newer figures, though there are plenty of the old ones on the secondary market, which by the way, is where I got mine.

A few months ago someone was selling 150+ of the late war Germans, and 70+ figures of the Soviets on eBay. The figures were based on the bases you see here, and the bases were already textured. For the most part this was ok, but, on the prone figures the texture was all over the legs which kind of sucked, but at the price I got them it is a minor quibble.

As I said, this is a mini review. I did not get the figs in the boxes so I am not entirely sure of the mix in each box. I figures I had approx 3 boxes of German infantry and one heavy weapons, and 2 boxes of Soviet infantry with one heavy weapons.

First up the Soviet infantry

The female medic is a nice touch.

As you can see, some good poses and a decent variety. Again, once the Plastic Soldier Review is back up you can see what is on the sprues. These were good castings with little in the way of flash or mold lines. They paint up very well, and they are lightly equipped so the painting goes quickly.

I liked the heavy weapons selection, including the ATR. My favorite was the crew pulling the MG. The ATR and LMG come with crews advancing as well as in a prone firing position. Overall I really liked the Soviets. The only pose I had an issue with was the guy throwing the grenade. He is bent backwards a bit, and he looks really awkward. Other than that, they were pretty good.

Then there are the Germans

And their heavy weapons

Much the same as the Russians as far as quality goes. I did have a few issues with the Germans though. These are supposed to be late war so 43-45 I would guess. But really, they are sculpted more in the 42-43 vein. While some did have helmet covers. None of them have smocks, at least that they are wearing. Another point was what I assumed was the gas mask container. It was as long as the shelter half and just did not look right to me. Maybe I am wrong on that and it is something else all together. Again, they had the odd grenade throwing pose. One thing to note, if getting multiple boxes you will have a number of medics and radio men. If you are the sort to do conversions that isn't an issue. I you are like me and just paint them up out of the box you may have too many of those figures.

That's all I have this time around. Happy Gaming!
