Well, this will be my very first post ever. I opened this account several years ago and it has sat unused. I have been wanting to get it going this last year, so I finally decided to sit down and get it done. Like so many others, I thought I might put forth a list of gaming and painting goals for the coming year. It seems that when I do that I tend to get more done. This way I can look back at my goals, chronicle what I have done, and see where I come out at the end of the year. As I list projects I will discuss my goals for each, rather then break things out as far as painting and playing goes. After some weeks of thought I have come up with this list;
Samurai - I have a large pile of unpainted 15mm and a somewhat smaller group of 28mm in both metal and plastic. I have been looking at rules for some time now, and after acquiring a copy of Killer Katanas II I have decided to go with Battles in the Age of War. I like the basing that RFCM has come up with, and they are a more modern set. KK II will remain in the library since it has some great scenarios, I will just need to come up with some sort of scale to put BAW and KK II together.
ECW - I have a large amount of painted and unpainted figures in 15mm. It seems as though this would be a project I could have completed this year. After checking out many sets of rules I have settled on Victory without Quarter. Other than a couple tweaks I plan on making they are a fun set of rules. I enjoyed the way they play. I will have some rebasing to do, my finished stuff is based for DBR, but that is a minor thing. I did pick up a Battalia pack from Warlord as some friend are playing small 28mm battle with Pike & Shotte. I may or may not get to those, we will have to wait and see.
MAW - This should not be too hard a task to get done. The troops are fairly easy to paint and since I will be using Regimental Fire and Fury, I don't think the figure requirements will be too demanding. I have just a few of these figures to date, but I will pick them up as I get the others done. They will be 15mm and most likely I will stick with Musket Miniatures.
Napoleonics - Many years ago, after collecting 15mm armies and painting the for probably 10 years, I decided that I will never be able to field all the troops I want, in my lifetime. So I sold them all and decided to go with 6mm. Many years ago a friend of mine did this and I told him he was crazy. Unfortunately he did not live long enough to see me buy into his madness. The rules I am using are Napoleon's Battles. I started out with these and they have been my go to ever since. So for the 6mm guys I am reducing the basing 60% so instead of a 3/4" x 1" it comes out to just under 1/2" wide by 5/8" deep. This will allow me to do most of the NB scenarios on a 4x6 table. Anyway, I have a ton of Adler figures to paint. Looking to do Ligny or Waterloo at the end of the year.
WW1 - Inspired by the release of GWSH II and the centenary of the war, I am going to get a start on my WW1 project. The figures will be 10mm from Pendraken. I have a scenario book on the way. I may get a game of this going in a few months.
Some other smaller projects that I may squeeze in could be 20mm SCW, 28mm Saga, 6mm Modern (80's Cold War), 15mm ancients (really excited about my War and Empire Ptolemaics), 28mm Muskets and Tomahawks, and 28mm WW2 (probably CoC).
I could go on and on and on, but that is probably enough for now. I am excited for this year, and hopefully that will turn into a productive painting year as well as a productive gaming year.
